There are few places quite like Achill…
but there’s no place like Keem Bay!

If you want to see the stereotype picturesque image of Ireland, there are a few places you should go, and Achill Island in County Mayo is definitely one of them.
Achill’s Keem Bay is especially beautiful, and pretty breathtaking when you first catch sight of it.

The road to the bay is along a cliff so when it suddenly comes into view, you pretty much find yourself looking down on the most amazing beach and its bright blue waters.

For those of you unfamiliar with the county, Achill is an island but perfectly accessible by car.
If you like hiking, biking, camping, surfing, swimming, etc, you will love the landscape of Achill and in particular, its beaches.

The beaches there are all kinds of stunning. Midweek, its the perfect place for anyone who wants peace and quiet. If you like to meditate in the fresh air, or carry out some outdoor yoga, there’s no shortage of amazing places to do so in Achill.
When you arrive on the island, the first main beach you will see is Dugort Beach. Definitely worth a visit.
I have yet to see a photo of Dugort Beach that does it justice. The sand there sparkles every bit as much as the water does. It’s so beautiful to see in person.

Upon leaving Dugort, the main Slievemore Road will take you towards Keem Bay. Keem is an incredible place and one you won’t want to leave, particularly if the weather is good.
There’s no coffee shops or restaurants in the bay, but there is a mobile outside the beach that sells tea/coffee and snacks.
